On Thursday, the 19th of October, our Year 10 Drama and Music GCSE students were treated to a spectacular performance of Tina Turner: The Musical. Prior to the show, all students participated in a careers workshop where they gained informative and interesting insights into various careers and job roles available in a West End theatre.
Did you know that Tina The Musical uses 138 wigs? Every night, only six staff members in the wig department work backstage, with each wig taking about three days to prepare!
Other departments that spoke included lighting automation, costume design, sound engineering, and stage management, demonstrating the multitude of roles and opportunities available in theatre. Understanding this aspect of theatre is integral to the Drama GCSE course, and witnessing it firsthand was invaluable.
The Charter East School would like to thank the Music and Drama departments for arranging this collaborative and eye-opening experience for our students. We look forward to future collaborations with Macintosh Theatres for smaller careers workshops, providing our students with even deeper insights into backstage roles within theatre and musicals.
