Silver Qualifying Expedition Kit List

We look forward to seeing our Silver D of E students complete their expedition this June. Here is a reminder of their kit list:

Essential kit

CLOTHING:

1 pair of walking boots (well broken in) or trainers

3 pairs of walking socks 

Jacket/coat (waterproof & windproof; not just showerproof) 

Waterproof over-trousers

3 fleece tops or similar

3-4 t-shirts

2 pairs of walking trousers/jogging bottoms/leggings

2 pairs of shorts (sensible length)

Underwear

Nightwear

Warm hat (for night)

Sun hat (for day)

Sliders/flip flops/spare shoes for the campsite

Gloves

PERSONAL KIT:

Rucksack (around 60 litres) [can be supplied by the school if need be - let us know]

Rucksack liner (or 2 strong plastic bags) 

Sleeping bag (2-3 seasons) [can be supplied by the school if need be - let us know]

Sleeping mat [can be supplied by the school if need be - let us know]

Personal first aid kit

Small dry bag

Torch (handheld/head torch and spare batteries)

Food (details of what to bring to be communicated separately)

Water bottle(s) (total capacity 1 litre)

Cutlery

Plate/bowl 

Small notebook and pen/pencil 

Watch

Towel (quick dry)

Sun cream (at least factor 30)

Wash kit/personal hygiene items

Box of matches

Mug

Bags for rubbish

Using their eDofE card, pupils can get 10% off the kit they purchase from selected retailers. Pupils will have received their eDofE card in the post when they received their Welcome Pack. However, a digital version can also be downloaded via eDofE. More information about how to download a digital version of the card and use the card can be found on this DofE webpage.

Tips on how to pack a bag for DofE effectively can be found on this page. Note, pupils shouldn’t be carrying a bag that is more than 25% of their body weight (e.g. if a pupil weighs 60 kg, their bag should weigh no more than 15 kg). They will have to carry whatever they choose to bring!
